Aquarium Plant Fertilizer?
I have a ten gallon tropical tank. for about 3 months now it has been running smoothley with just regualr gravel and fake plants. i want to get some real plants to give it a more natural look. i 've heard i would need fertilizer and then i 've heard plants can make it just off the natural waste and stuff in the tank. so i basically have two questions...1) do i need fertilizer and if so can i put the fertilizer in my gravel?2) or can the plants just grow in my gravel?thank you (Read answers)

Firefighter-themed Aquarium?
I recently received a hand-me-down aquarium and it just has a traditional look to it. you know, its got an abandoned castle, scuba diver, some plants, and some pieces that just look like pieces of wood with holes in it for the fish to hide. there is nothing wrong with that, but i would like to customize it to fit my lifestyle by making it firefighter themed. maybe a building that is on fire, a firefighter with a hose, a fire hydrant, and possibly even plants that look like flames! the only problem is i can 't seem to find anything like this. i 've tried in person and over the internet. i refuse to believe that nobody else has come up with this idea in the past and possibly create firefighter pieces for a firefighter themed underwater scene. i was inspired by the tv show "man caves " when they did a fantasy football room and had a football-themed aquarium. can someone please point me in the right direction of where i could find firefighter pieces for an aquarium (assuming that they do actually exsist)?!! Aquarium Light Switch Is Crackling?
I have a 60l aquarium and i recently replaced the bulb and noticed that when i turned it on the switch made a crackilng/ hissing noise. so my dad too it all apart and has tested it to see if power is reaching he light which it appears to be but the light won 't stay on. it flickers every now and again but that 's all.we thought it may be damp so it 's dried out in the airing cupboard overnight but that doesn 't appear to have helped. also when you hold down the switch the light flickers more.if anyone knows anything about electrics, please let me know which part i can replace! dad suggested getting a new toggle switch...what do you guys think? Diy Aquarium Decoration Ideas?
Hey everyone, recently i 've been making a lot of diy (do-it-yourself) aquarium decorations. i 've made caves using pvc pipes with rocks. i used aquarium-safe glue and clean rocks. what should my next project be? i need ideas. besides the caves i 've made a rock orniment that goes over the stick looking thing that makes bubbles. i designed it to fit perfectly under is and make it appear as if the bubbles are coming from the rocks themselves ^_^ just upfront, i am not looking to use flower pots. they 're great but not very natural looking in a tank. i have a really large tank and i want to make more decorations. ideas--- especially far fetched ones are strongly encouraged :d (Read answers)

Wanting To Build Overflow And Sump For My Aquarium?
I 've been watching videos on youtube on how to build a overflow and sump . the building process it self seems pretty easy and straight forword, i 'm just not sure about what size pvc pipe i should use for my huge aquarium.i heard the dimensions of the tank can make a factor in the size of the pvc overflow so not sure what to use since my tank is really big. the measurements of my tank is( 70 "long x 31 "high x 17wide ") 150 gallons .i have the original pump that came with the aquarium it has a green rubber hose that 's maybe a inch wide and 17 "inchs long(if this helps) .it looks to me like it was made for a sump so i 'm pretty sure it 's the right amount of gph for my tank, it seems pretty strong i tried it out.so if anyone got any ideas or any input please leave a comment and let me know would love to try this out seem like a fun hobby ,i made a quick video shot of the aquarium and posted it on youtube to show size of it.youtube.com/ watch?v= uubevevla1g &feature= plcp &context= c3e922a5udoegstopdskkfvzbxgtddgikdcnoeofzqwhat it looks like inside is only temporally it use to be for my king snake i made him a pond type deal and all this shit looked really nice at the time .since hes gone now i filled up the other side wit bit of water and put a fluval underwater filter 2 fish. wanting to go full scale but need to make overflow and sump first.(since i know someone gonna ask lol. the piece of wood is only there for support don 't wanna take a chance of the acrylic giving out till i 'm ready to do everything) (Read answers)

Where Can I Buy Light Sockets? (aquarium Diy Project)?
I need to make a light fixture for my aquarium... will anybody direct me to a place where i can buy just a light socket that can plug into the wall and put in a bulb and turn it on via a switch on the wire or socket?the plan is to make a hood of plexiglass, wood, or plastic, drill 2 holes overhead, and 2 holes in the sides, and having 2 low wattage night bulbs and 2 low wattage day bulbs.any other suggestions in the project would be appreciated.i 'm not sure if you caught the "make " part. i don 't want to spend $30-200 on something that i could make pretty easily for $20. i plan on using 10-20w bulbs, and it 's not going to melt plexiglass. the worst it could do is warp it, but plexiglass is cheap and i can make an adjustment to the fixture. it 's not going to be sitting directly on it.please read the question before you answer.i did not include that this is not for a fish aquarium. the desired temperature range is, in fact, 80-90 degrees fahrenheit.
